Gasoline prices are rising in Australia and are likely to continue rising in coming months, according to new research from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
The ABS said petrol and diesel prices will rise by 1.3 cents to 7.99 cents per litre on October 1.
That compares to the price increase of 0.9 cents a litre in October 2016.
The inflation rate for petrol is set to increase by 1 per cent, while for diesel it is set for a 1.8 per cent rise.
The petrol price increase comes after a recent decline of 2.3 per cent.
The price rise in the first quarter of 2018 was driven by lower prices for gasoline and diesel compared to the same period in 2017.
Gasoline prices have increased over the past year and are expected to continue to rise.
Gasoline price rises have also been a factor in slowing growth in retail sales, according the ABS.AAP/ABC
