Texas gasoline taker to get gas tax refund in exchange for weed trimmer
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.
— Gasoline trimmers are among the products that can be recycled.
But a Texas gas station owner says he wants to be the first to receive a refund for the costs of his weed trimming equipment.
Travis Swift, owner of a small business in the San Antonio area, said he was surprised when the state began giving him a refund in the fall of 2015 for the cost of his gas trimmers, which can be reused.
He said he bought the trimmers at a local gas station about six months ago.
Swift said he doesn’t want to get into trouble with the state for using the equipment, but he wants a refund so he can buy new trimmers and pay the full price for them.
In July, the state gave him a $5,000 cash refund for his weed trimming equipment.
Swifts bill for the trimmer was $6,500, but state records don’t show how much of that came from the sale of the equipment.
The bills include a $2,500 reimbursement for the purchase of trimmers.
Swimmers trimmer is a little bigger than a golf ball.
It has two blades that are held together by a bar that swivels at a 90-degree angle.
The trimmer comes in two sizes, ranging from 8.6 ounces to 16.3 ounces.
The price of a single trimmer starts at $8.25 and is $3.95 for the size 7.0 ounce trimmer.
Swims trimmer costs about $60 to $80 and can be purchased at gas stations.
He said the cost has increased about $3 to $5 per month as the trims have gotten larger.
Swim’s trimmers were purchased for $7,500 last year.
He doesn’t expect to spend much more than that, because he already has four trimmers that he wants replaced.
The trimmers cost about $50 to $60 and can also be purchased online for about $5 each.
Swimming trimmers can cost anywhere from $100 to $500.
